Walking and Cycling
The countryside is at the very doorstep of the Venta el Museo and can be explored either on foot or by bike. Some suggested expeditions include:
- From Lucainena to “Turrillas”.
- From Lucainena to “Polopos” and “Rambla Honda”
- From Lucainena de las Torres to Polopos and Rambla Honda.??????
- View the landscape from the summit of the “Peñon”.
- From Lucainena to Sierra Cabrera via Cortijo La Cantona.
Ornithology
For bird spotting, the area is a natural magnet for those wishing to get a few more of those difficult birds” ticked” in their book. Flamingo, black vulture, roller, golden oriole, the list could go on and on. The variety of birds to be seen in Andalucia is almost overwhelming, but the migration of the honey buzzards has to be one of the most spectacular events for “twitchers”.
Cave exploring
Lucainena has a variety of small caves among them Ben Humar, Mudo and Martillo which are worth a visit.
The "Karst en Yesos de Sorbas" is a Natural Park in which there are some 600 natural caves and tunnels, a great attraction for “potholers “and tourist alike . The array of stalagmites and stalagmites is difficult to rival anywhere in the world. Best visited as part of a guided tour.

Motor sport: Almeria Race track: For motorbike enthusiasts the Almeria circuit is a compulsory stopping off point. Only 10 km from the hotel, the track is host to many race meetings but is best known as the circuit at which many top teams and tyre manufacturers undertake their testing. The nearby sea offers plenty of different water sports such as diving, yachting and many more.
Horse riding
Exploring the Sierra by horse is an exciting experience. There are several stables offering tours.
Skiing
Just one hours straightforward drive will bring you to the cross country skiing resort of Puerta de la Ragua and within two hours you can be at the world famous “downhill” resort of Sierra Nevada. If alpine sports are for you, you will be spoilt for choice.
